Precision Machining for Defence Communications Equipment
Defence radios get dropped, soaked and shaken in the field. Every machined part in them has to survive that. Milturn supplies precision machining for defence communications equipment, and this is one of our largest contracts.
Our customer builds radios and networking systems for defence and security users. They seal their equipment against water and dust, then test it for shock and vibration.
We machine the parts on CNC milling and turning centres, in batches from 10 off to many thousands. After machining, each part goes through our in-house secondary operations and inspection:
- Anodising to BS ISO 7599, with coating thickness checked by XRF
- Chromate conversion to SurTec 650, powder coating and laser marking as required
- Fitting of threaded inserts and other fixings
- Final inspection on Vision Engineering measurement systems, including a coordinate measuring machine (CMM), the LVC Series 3-axis vision measuring system and mechanical inspection equipment

Milturn handles the machining and the finishing, so you place one purchase order and deal with one team. That team owns the schedule and the quality, from billet to finished part. Parts stay with us between operations. If a date moves, you don’t have to chase three suppliers.
Milturn, part of Vision Engineering Group, holds:
- ISO 9001 certification
- JOSCAR pre-qualification
- Make UK Defence membership
